As an Alternative Provision (AP) Academy our primary aim is to prepare and equip our students with the necessary confidence and tools to successfully move onto their next 'destination'. At Meadowbrook College, our students experience learning success which builds their capacity and confidence. Accreditation unlocks doors for future progress. This includes transition into further education, employment or training post-16.
A key feature of Meadowbrook College is our strong commitment to the adoption of restorative principles and practices. These underpin all aspects of our community, supporting positive behaviour and relationships and underpinning quality teaching and learning.
- 92% of Yr11 students achieved appropriate accreditation in Maths and English.
- 95% of Key stage 3 Discovery pupils were reintegrated back into mainstream schools
- 77% of Yr11 students gained Vocational BTEC qualifications at Level 1 or 2
- 85% of On Course parents said they "have seen an improvement at home in behaviour/attitude?"
- In 2015/16 54% of students left Meadowbrook with 5 A*-G CGSEs or equivalent qualifications. 50% of students achieved 5A*-G GCSEs/equivalents including Maths and English.
- 25% of students achieved a C grade or above in English and 28% made or exceeded their expected levels of progress from KS2-4 in English
Meadowbrook College programmes and services
The KS4 Programme
We have students on part-time and full-time programmes aimed at preparing students for successful transition back into their schools or in moving on to further education, employment or training at the end of year 11. Learning takes place in small groups and aims to support students to re-engage with education in order to better their chances of being successful. All KS4 students follow a core curriculum focussing on essential knowledge and skills: Maths, English, Science, Well Being Education and Work Skills and additionally choose from a variety of interesting option subjects to make up a strong bank of qualifications. We have a variety of Technical Subjects which students can select from to supplement their Core curriculum.
KS3 provision comprises of four prograrmmes
Is a full time, up to 8 weeks, programme for KS3 students, from across the county, who have been, or are at risk of being, permanently excluded from their schools. Learning takes place in small groups.
The aim of the programme is for students to move successfully on to their next school. All Students have two weeks reintegration support to help secure a successful outcome.
Is a 4 week full-time programme. Students learn about themselves and develop strategies to manage themselves and their behaviour more appropriately when back in school. Coach mentors also work with the students to reintegrate them back into their own schools.
Provision has been developed to provide a bespoke, comprehensive and integrated interim education package for vulnerable and challenging students. Each programme can be tailored to meet the needs of an individual student. Bridges programmes are provided for pupils of all ages (6-16) and can include post placement integration support.
New for 2016
Meadowbrook will be offering support to schools for students who have been through our KS3 programmes but need further support with their learning over a longer period of time. Students will again be in small groups but will follow a curriculum which combines the traditional school 'Core' curriculum with opportunities to study practical-learning based courses. Students should not expect to be with us for longer than two terms.
FLO/Technical Learning Programmes
Students who attend Meadowbrook often love practical based (and sometimes, outdoor) learning programmes. FLO (Foundation Learning Opportunities) is predominantly available to year 9 students and offers the opportunity to study a Level 1 course in a practical subject eg. BTEC Sport. Technical (previously known as Vocational) subjects are predominantly available to year 10 and 11 students (but may be suitable for some year 9 students).
We also offer schools a range of short term, vocationally focussed courses you might access to support your learners (see Vocational Course and Alternative Provision for School page for further information and course availability)
Many of our schools contact us for bespoke support which they would like to take place in their own schools. This can take a variety of forms: in-school consultation; 1-1 support for students; work with focus group of teachers etc.. Schools shape this provision so please call us if you need our support and we will discuss how we might meet your individual needs.
We are able to support schools in developing skills in restorative practice and Team Teach in particular but are happy to provide bespoke programmes of support to schools on a needs basis.
